State of the Nation
Address is an annual event in the country where the President of the
Philippines reports on the status of the nation as stated in the Philippine
Constitution (Article VII, Section 23 - The President
shall address the Congress at the opening of its regular session. He may also appear
before it at any other time.)
It also is stated in the Constitution that the SONA will be delivered every
4th Monday of the July at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Batasan
Hills, Quezon City.
Since the 23rd is
the 4th Monday of the month, it is scheduled to be the President's SONA. This
will be the President's third SONA since he became the president of the
country. SONA is supposed to be the time when a president will boast the things
he did for the country, announce the accomplishments he had for the nation, and
promises that was completed. Last year, the President P'noy has promised a lot
of things for the country and boasted the reduction of hunger and poverty at
the same time the prohibition of "wang-wang". Aside from boasting a
lot of things last SONA, like straight and righteous path.
With all his
promises and plans towards straight and righteous path for the
country, it's so hard to see a completed task from his promises. We are able to
see a lot of things unfinished or worst, not started promises from his SONA.
Clearing the system
from abusive officials and government leaders is one of his biggest promises
and is becoming controversial due to the cases filed against the former
president and now the Congresswoman Gloria Arroyo and the conviction of the
former CJ Corona.
As a citizen, a
concerned citizen, I need to know what the president has done this year for the
nation despite of the issues we are currently facing regarding the Scarborough
Shoal. I want to hear the things that he had completed for me as a citizen and
for the country as a whole. This time I hope, he has something to tell about
the things he had promised from the previous year. I also would want
hear what the President's plan for us and for the country.
